Productions Committee - Information for Directors

Once Productions Committee has put a season together, confirmed performing rights, and the season is ratified by Management Committee, our role is to find directors for each play and help them cast and organise their productions.

Support for Directors: Mentors & Liaison

All productions are assigned a Productions Committee (Prod. Comm.) liaison. We can also provide a mentor (an experienced director) for anyone who wants one. See Appendices 3 & 4 for detailed role descriptions.

Pairing

Productions are paired with the one before or after them in the season. Directors of paired shows should liaise over audition times, casting, etc., to avoid clashes and coordinate resources. Generally, auditions cannot be held until both paired directors are appointed.

Prod. Comm. Meetings

  1. After accepting a production you’ll be asked to attend Prod. Comm., initially to discuss planning, and then after auditions for casting. Meetings are usually 8pm Thursdays in Rehearsal Room 2.
  2. If you need to raise an issue at any time, contact the Chair to be added to the next meeting agenda. Your liaison can help.
  3. Please arrive around 8:00pm. If that’s not feasible, let the Chair know so the agenda can be adjusted.
  4. Protocols for all attendees (including visiting directors):

- If an actor or director is to be discussed and you are a close family member (parent/child/sibling) or partner, you must leave the room. Members discussed also leave. These discussions are confidential.

- Do not share items discussed at Prod. Comm. outside the meeting.

- Potential casting discussions are entirely confidential.

- Contents of directors’ feedback sessions are confidential unless issues need to be raised by the Chair with relevant individuals.

- Members are encouraged to discuss play choices when the season is being set; suggestions are welcome.
